How we research

Every route, station and scenic railroad guide on USA by Rail starts with structured data we assemble ourselves: the order of stops, approximate coordinates for our schematics, typical journey times, frequencies, onboard classes and service status. We check this against the operators' official websites (Amtrak, VIA Rail, Brightline, the Alaska Railroad, Rocky Mountaineer and individual heritage railroads) and against public reporting on service changes.

How the pages are written

Our editors write the data and the facts first. We then use software, including AI writing tools, to help draft readable text from those facts, and we run automatic checks on every draft: numbers must match our fact sheets, internal links must exist, and banned phrases are removed. Drafts that fail are rewritten or discarded. We do not claim first hand experiences we have not had, and we do not publish invented reviews or ratings.

Times, fares and changes

We deliberately avoid exact departure times and fares, because they change several times a year and with demand. Journey times are rounded and labelled as approximate. Where a service has changed recently, such as the temporary Floridian replacing the Capitol Limited and Silver Star, or the Sunset Limited running three days a week, we say so and date it. Every page carries a last checked date, currently October 2026.

Maps and images

All route schematics and maps on this site are generated from our own station data. They are simplified and not to scale. We do not use copyrighted photographs.

Independence

We have no commercial relationship with any railroad, tour operator or booking site. There is no advertising and there are no affiliate links. Links to operators are there so you can check and book at the source.

Corrections

If you spot something out of date, please tell us via the contact page. We correct errors and update the last checked date.
