Depending on the time of year and the schedule, parts of this journey will happen in darkness. During daylight hours, passengers traveling between Washington and Richmond can see Northern Virginia and the Rappahannock River crossing at Fredericksburg. Further south, the train passes through the Carolina lowcountry between Florence and Savannah. This section features coastal marshes and rivers around Charleston and Yemassee. As the train enters Florida, it stops in Jacksonville, Orlando, and West Palm Beach. The scenery transitions to Central Florida lakes and orange groves before reaching the final stretch. The final leg runs along the Gold Coast cities, stopping at Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood before arriving in Miami.
